Marvel's The Runaways: Season 1 Review

Marvel's The Runaways concluded its first season on January 9, 2018. Telling the story of six teenagers from different backgrounds unite against a common enemy — their criminal parents known as the Pride. The finale was titled "Hostile". Highly recommended show that has received raved reviews from viewers. The show begins with a boy named Alex Wilder, who reunites his friends Nico, Molly, Karolina, Chase, and Gert. One night, the group of friends discovered their parents were making yearly sacrifices underneath their roof.

The show did stay close to the comics keeping elements of Nico learning she's a witch [use of blood is brief], Chase received his fistigons, Karolina discovers she's an alien, Gert has telepathic connects with a dinosaur. However, Molly's persona has been tweak. Her last name was changed to Hernandez and powers come from mutated rocks instead of her being a mutant. The character development is on point. Each person does interact well with one another. The show did test the relationships between Alex & Nico, Nico & Karolina and Chase & Gert. They tweak Leslie profession, gave Gert's parents bio-engineering lives and added a death tragedy for Nico to deal with, her sister.

One thing I loved was keeping some of their classic outfits from the comics and bringing it to the series. Pay close attention to Alex, Molly, Chase, Nico and Karolina attires. Especially on the finale. I hope they find a way to get the kids to meet freeform Cloak and Dagger in the future. I left out a lot of things to make this review mild spoiler. Season 2 will have 13 episodes and the crew are on the run!
